CODY, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming jury has found a man guilty of wasting edible portions of a bighorn sheep he successfully hunted two years ago.

After the verdict last Friday in Park County, Circuit Judge Bruce Waters fined Tyler Sluyter, of Daniel, $1,040 and took away his hunting privileges for two years.

The judge also imposed six months of unsupervised probation and a 90-day suspended jail sentence for the misdemeanor.

Sluyter obtained a tag and harvested the bighorn in September 2015 in the Washakie Wilderness in northwest Wyoming. He removed the head and shoulder hide for a trophy mount but testified that the much of the animal’s carcass was too bloodshot to salvage.

Another hunter found the carcass and reported it to Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
