Ripley – A 17-foot fall from a tree stand could have seriously injured Joel Miller of Cottageville on Oct. 5.

When Miller’s foot slipped off the tree-stand “safety step” he installed, the metal step slid up the back of his leg and tore a gash in back of his knee that took 17 stitches to close.

Miller was left with a broken bone in his back and 17 stitches behind his right knee.
