A teenager is in custody after police in Campbellsport, Wis., determined he was the person responsible for firing an arrow that accidentally hit a 7-year-old girl in the back.

The identity of the 16-year-old shooter was not released, and a 17-year-old friend of his who was believed to be with him at the time has been referred to the Fond Du Lac District Attorney for a review.

“They basically said that they shot an arrow at a squirrel and the arrow impacted the child and at that point they heard the child scream and obviously they were afraid to come forward,” Fond Du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink told ABC affiliate WBAY.

Aryanna Schneeberg was walking with friends nearly two weeks ago when she was hit from behind by what police at the time said they believed was a stray arrow.
