CHIPPEWA FALLS — Three men have been charged with illegally hunting, shining deer and killing the animals out of season in the town of Ruby in early November.

Stacy L. Birch Jr., 20; John E. Stender, 18; and Nathan D. Potter, 19, were charged with illegally shining deer, hunting during closed season and failure to obtain hunting licenses.

Officers learned that men were illegally hunting in the northeastern corner of Chippewa County on Nov. 12.

The men admitted to their role, saying they had shot at three deer in an open field. Birch held the spotlight while Stender shot at them. The men said they left the area to get Potter’s truck to pick up the deer.
