A 68-year-old man is dead after the kayak he was in flipped over.

According to the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office, a call for help came in around 1:15 Sunday afternoon.

Deputies say two people were duck hunting while kayaking on the La Crosse River in Bangor.

One hunter’s kayak got entangled in a tree, causing the kayak to flip over and submerge the hunter.

The other hunter tried to help but had trouble in the cold water.

A third person in the area heard calls for help, pulled both hunters out of the water, and called 911.

A 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other hunter was treated by first responders and released.

The sheriff’s office expects to release more information Monday.
