Details are sketchy, but Washington game wardens are confirming an incident in Okanogan County that resulted in one person being shot.
A WDFW statement says that fish and wildlife officers are “investigating an assault that took place [Saturday, Oct. 20] on U.S. Forest Service property outside the City of Twisp in Okanogan County.”
First responders took the individual to a local hospital for a gunshot wound.
Modern firearm deer season is ongoing in the area.
An initial report posted on Hunting Washington was that someone had mistaken another person for a cougar and shot them with a handgun at shooting light.
But WDFW had no further information to share at the moment.
“The investigation is ongoing at this time,” the agency statement says.
