Kennewick teen accidentally shot while hunting

December 31, 2010

WALLULA, Wash. (AP) — A Kennewick teen has been accidentally shot with a 12-guage shotgun while duck hunting near Wallula Junction in Walla Walla County.

County Fire Chief Mike Wickstrom told The Tri-City Herald the duck hunter has been flown by helicopter to a hospital in Richland with a severe flesh wound to his upper right arm. He says the teen — reported to be 15 — was hit by a shotgun blast from a foot away.

He was hunting with two friends. All three boys are from Kennewick and licensed to hunt.

Wickstrom says the gun accidentally fired. His friends called 911 and one boy’s aunt, who is a nurse. With the aunt’s guidance, the friends controlled the bleeding until help arrived.
