Residents of the Little Creek community and local emergency services personnel rallied Saturday to rescue a hunter who had been dangling upside down from his tree stand for hours.
The incident began when the hunter fell backwards out of his tree stand catching his legs in straps that left him dangling upside down. The man started yelling for help as soon as he fell, and members of the community fortunately heard him and realized he was calling or help.
Residents called 911 around 9:20 a.m. and started searching for the man.
They found him about half to three-quarters of the way up Big Walker Mountain on the north (Giles County) side of the mountain. He was about 30 feet up the tree, according to Wright.
The man left to go hunting before daylight Saturday, so Wright estimated he had already been hanging in the tree about four hours when he was found.
