A Saturday deer hunt almost turned tragic for a 32-year-old father and son when an accidental shooting in the woods sent the father to Duke University Medical Center.

The shooting occurred off Highway 57 near the White Oak community when a deer ran between the two hunters while the pair was hunting in a wooded area off a farm road.

Harris said the juvenile shot at the deer as it ran between him and his father with several pellets from the .20 gauge shotgun blast striking his father in both legs, the abdomen and his right elbow.
