A 22-year-old duck hunter was rescued from the water where he was hunting Saturday after he apparently experienced a medical emergency and fell from his boat.

“At the time of the incident, the victim was wearing chest waders which filled up with water. His hunting companion was holding his head out of the water until rescuer’s arrived,” Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen stated in a weekend press release.

The Weber County man was hunting with a friend in the waters south of State Road 30 in the Petersboro area. When he fell into the water at about 4 p.m., his companion was unable to get him back to the boat without assistance, so he called for help and kept the man safe until help arrived, Jensen stated.

When the deputy arrived on scene, another boat owner took him and medical personnel to the victim, who was about a mile away from the dock.

The victim was pulled back in the boat and taken to an ambulance waiting at the marina. By that time, Jensen said the victim was conscious and alert. He was transported to Logan Regional Hospital for evaluation.

“The victim in this case was fortunate,” Jensen stated. “His hunting companion was quick to respond and knew what to do to save his life.”

Jensen emphasized the importance of not hunting alone and having the proper equipment, especially in or around the water in the cold temperatures.
