Joseph Frederick, who was sentenced in 2016 to five years of federal probation for killing two endangered whooping cranes while hunting, has been sent to prison for 11 months for violating his probation.

Prosecutors say Frederick violated his probation by using an AR-15 assault-style rifle to hunt from a roadway. The terms of his probation had prohibited him from possessing firearms, ammunition or any other dangerous weapon. He also had been barred from hunting or fishing anywhere in the country.
