BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Rescuers have journeyed into southern Indiana’s Morgan-Monroe State Forest to help a man shot by his brother on the opening day of turkey hunting season.
The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/Ja78O1 ) the two were hunting near the Morgan-Monroe county line north of Bloomington on Wednesday when one accidentally shot the other in the chest with a .12-gauge shotgun. His brother called 911 for help, and rescuers hiked into the woods with equipment to haul the injured man to a waiting medical helicopter.
The newspaper says the injured brother had a non-life threatening injury.
A second turkey hunter also has been shot. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department says an Evansville man hunting near Mitchell suffered head and back wounds Wednesday morning and was flown to a hospital for treatment.
