Indie film director Ben Dickson likely faces legal trouble for illegally hunting and killing two deer in his upcoming movie “First Winter.” The film, set to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival this week, focuses on a group of urbanites who head into the country for relaxation but who instead fight for survival after an apocalyptic event.
The deer was shot and killed during filming in February 2011 on a private farm in upstate New York. In addition to the deer being shot and killed outside of the legal hunting season, the actor who pulled the trigger, Paul Manza, had neither hunting experience nor a hunting license. The bullet killed one deer and injured another who was ultimately put out of its misery. One deer is shown being skinned and cooked on camera.
