The following arrest was supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Tiverton police arrested a hunter last week after he was found walking near King Road with a shotgun. The man was allegedly drunk.
Joseph J. Medeiros, 43, of 91 Cornell Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 5:09 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5. He was charged with carrying a weapon while intoxicated.
According to Lt. Patrick Jones, police received a call of a man carrying a shotgun down a paved road near Cornell Road and off King Road. Officers were dispatched to the area and confronted the man who “was clearly wearing camoflage with a shotgun.” Jones said officers detained the man and questioned him as to what he was doing. He added that police called the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) for assistance.
“Upon speaking to Medeiros, the officer said he could smell alcohol coming from his breath,” Jones said.
After the hunter was arrested, Jones said DEM issued several citations in violation of various state hunting ordinances.
