York County Teen Shoots Brother While Hunting
YORK COUNTY, S.C. — An 8-year-old boy is expected home from the hospital by Friday after he was accidentally shot by his 14-year-old brother.
“We’re just focused on getting him well and getting him home,” said Dana Harris, the mother of 8-year-old Kolton Harris.
She said her son is now out of intensive care and making a strong recovery.
“I’m, of course, very upset by all this but we’re just thinking about him now,” she said.
Sheriff’s deputies said the two brothers were outside their grandfather’s house Saturday night on Scenic View Road in rural western York County.
They were shooting birds with their father’s 12-gauge shotgun, which was loaded with birdshot. Kolton was standing on a tractor in the yard when his older brother fired the gun without seeing him.

Lt. Sandy Young with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said children can legally shoot a gun without adult supervision as long as they’re on private property.
