MCCORMICK, SC (FOX Carolina) – A Westminster teen is thankful his father is still alive after a tragic hunting accident Saturday, and the boy’s family said his quick reaction may have saved his dad’s life.

Mike Alexander went down to the family’s hunting land in Mount Carmel to spend the weekend hunting and camping with his dad’s friend Sterling Lowe.

Alexander was attempting to move a tree stand that had been positioned about
20 feet up in a tree when the bottom of the stand fell out, sending Mike plummeting head first to the ground, landing on his neck.

About half an hour later, an ambulance finally arrived and rushed the elder Alexander to a hospital in Augusta, GA.

Doctors soon learned the elder Alexander had broken bones in his neck, back, shoulder, wrist and had cracked his skull in the fall.
