Bamberg police arrested an 18-year-old Apache Road man with third-degree assault (A&B) on Oct. 7 after he admitted shooting a BB gun while walking on North Street.

The man said he was shooting at squirrels, but a North Street resident who called officers said the shots were fired in his direction. The resident’s wife and 1-year-old child were with him at the time, sitting in a swing in their backyard.

The Apache Road man insisted that he was shooting at squirrels and that “it was an accident,” and a juvenile who was with him also told police the man was shooting at squirrels.

Officers notified the Department of Natural Resources about the incident, and DNR cited the man for not having a hunting license.
