GAFFNEY, SC – 42-year-old Brian James Gilliam was hunting Friday in a wooded area off of Robbs School Road. Gilliam was attempting to climb out of a deep ravine when he slipped on an unstable rock, discharging a loaded shotgun.
Gilliam and a friend had trespassed onto the property together Friday evening to illegally hunt turkeys but later became separated.
Gilliam was struck in the right arm and shoulder by the gunshot before walking to a cleared area about 40 yards away. His body was found just after noon Saturday.
