Sacramento man dies during squirrel hunting expedition in Butte Co.

BUTTE COUNTY, CA- Ving Moua, a 53-year-old Sacramento resident, died at the French Creek area of Butte County during a squirrel hunting expedition Saturday morning.

During the expedition, the Moua was heard calling out for help by his family. he was found lying unresponsive on a steep hill appearing to have fallen down. The family members had to hike out to a different area because their cell phones did not have any reception.

According to Sgt. David Bottom, with the Butte Co. Sheriff’s Office, the family was able to obtain cell phone reception but did not know where their current location. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office was then contacted to help find the hunting party.

A team comprised of Butte County Search and Rescue, Butte County Sheriff’s Deputies, Fish and Game, US Forest Service and Cal Fire personnel, and Moua’s family, were able to locate Moua who was pronounced dead at the scene.
