Hunter recovering after being shot
Game Commission fines him for being on posted property.
Recovery is coming more quickly than expected for a Shippensburg roofing contractor shot Nov. 30 in an apparent hunting accident in Letterkenny Township.
EJ Helman was struck in the right arm by a bullet that entered at the back of his elbow and entered through the top of his forearm about 5 p.m. while he hunted deer in a wooded area along Rocky Spring Road.
The gunshot shattered Helman’s arm, obliterating portions of the ulna, radius and humerus bones and vaporizing part of the elbow joint in the process. …
Michelle said the gunshot wound blew her husband’s arm “to smithereens” from the entry point to the exit wound. …
He says Pennsylvania Game Commission authorities have determined his wound came from a round fired from a .22 caliber rifle such as a .223 or .243 and was fired from a distance of 150 to 200 yards….
