Kyle Eugene McKenzie, 30, was convicted of one count of killing a bull elk out of season in Morrow County.

McKenzie trespassed onto the Flying Buffalo Ranch, “unlawfully and recklessly” and killed a bull elk in the Heppner controlled hunt area during a closed season.

The felony charge came because McKenzie had already been convicted in 2008 of unlawfully hunting a bear with bait and unlawfully killing a bear in Crook County.

McKenzie was sentenced to 18 months of formal probation, 80 hours of community service, 5 days jail, $7,500 restitution to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and suspension of his hunting license for life.
