Creswell man convicted of poaching trophy elk near Cottage Grove

Jeffrey Clinton Dodge, 34, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor poaching charge Friday in Lane County Circuit Court and has been ordered to serve five years of probation and pay $15,000 in restitution for illegally shooting a bull elk on Weyerhaeuser property off Mosby Creek Road in the Cottage Grove area.

Dodge admitted to the trooper that he had shot the elk.

He will not be allowed to obtain a hunting license for the next three years, and the suspension could be lengthened to five years if he fails to pay restitution to the state Fish and Wildlife department.
