A rescue was under way this morning of a hunter who fell down a steep embankment and broke his leg just outside the Village of Springville, Erie County Sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies and firefighters from Sardinia and Concord fire companies were taking part in the rescue.

The hunter fell about 300 feet from Mill Street. He reported he couldn’t move his leg.

Firefighters were bringing ATVs to the site to help move the injured hunter shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday.

The rescue effort was the second involving a hunter Saturday morning.

At about 7 a.m., a 32-year-old hunter fell about 20 feet from a tree stand near Wolcott Road in Clarence.

Four-wheelers were used to rescue this hunter as well.

He was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for treatment of a possible back injury.
