The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says 71-year-old Vienchaleun Kettavong was hunting Tuesday afternoon with his 58-year-old friend and the man’s 22-year-old son in the town of Rush, 10 miles south of the city.

Deputies say the younger man fired his rifle at what he believed to be a squirrel, and instead shot Kettavong. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
