Nevada wildlife officials said a man, who has been a repeat trapping violator, was convicted for the trapping deaths of two animals, one of which included a bighorn sheep.
According to the state’s Department of Wildlife, Clinton Felton, 47, of Fallon, was convicted on a misdemeanor charge of failing to visit his trap line, which drew a total fine of $1,000.
Wildlife officials said Felton failed to check separate traps which captured a bighorn sheep and a bobcat in October, 2011. Those animals died in the traps, most likely due to exposure, officials said.
Nevada law requires trappers to visit traps every 96 hours. The law also requires trappers to release animals that are inadvertently captured.
Before his latest conviction, the department said Felton has been convicted of trapping violations four times since 1991.
