Two brothers pled guilty Wednesday to poaching a pregnant mule deer in Douglas County, a Nevada Department of Wildlife press release said.
The mule deer was pregnant with twins when Gonzalo Cossio and Jesus Cossio-Pitones shot the animal close to their home near Holbrook Junction in March, the report said. After shooting the deer, the brothers harvested, gutted and cleaned the animal, the report said. A citizen saw the brothers disposing the animal and informed authorities before the “game warden caught these guys literally red handed,” NDOW Chief Game Warden Rob Buonamici said.
“This is a classic poaching of opportunity,” Buonamici said. “The real tragedy is that the doe was pregnant with twins, and now three animals have been taken from sportsmen and citizens of this state.”
Cossio pled guilty and was sentenced to 90 days in jail. His brother, Cossio-Pitones, is prohibited from possessing a firearm, hunt or purchase any hunting license or tag and must forfeit the weapon used to kill the deer, the report said.
