Omaha, NE – A tool that is used for trapping is turning up in the Metro area.
In the last few months someone’s dog and an owl have been caught in snap traps. As the weather warms up some people worry more of the traps could put kids and small animals at risk.
The Nebraska Humane Society tells KMTV Action 3 News that the owl was found on Wednesday, dead. The trap and the dead owl were next to a house in Bellevue.
As horrible as it is to imagine the great horned owl starving to death the man who found the owl worries about who else could have stumbled up on the trap.
“It scared me because there are kids and animals that play around this area, and there is a park up the street and someone could have got hurt,” said Jeff Sales.
Wildlife experts say while it’s illegal to set traps within the Omaha city limits more traps could be hiding near areas where children and small animals play.
Just in December a dog was found caught in a trap. Its leg was so badly injured vets had to amputate it.
Wildlife experts say there is no way traps should be out in populated areas.
Officials are looking for who is responsible for the trap.
