14-year-old flown to Lincoln hospital with gunshot wound

A 14-year-old Gage County boy was flown to Bryan LGH West Tuesday evening after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Authorities said the boy was wounded with a .22 caliber weapon while hunting for rabbits Tuesday evening, adding they believe the incident to be an accident.

The boy was taken by ambulance to the One Stop near Filley to await StarCare, but was later transferred to the Beatrice Municipal Airport. From there, StarCare transferred the 14-year old to Bryan LGH just before 8p.m.

Beatrice Fire Captain Jeff VanWinkle said the boy was in stable condition upon leaving the airport.

The Gage County Sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
