Deputies said a local man is now facing a citation after poaching a black bear out of season.
Pitt County deputies, along with Wildlife Resource Commission officers, said they got a call of shots fired near Poplar Grove Drive in Pitt County around
7 p.m. Monday.
Investigators said they combed the area, to find a black bear had been killed.
Deputies said they waited for the poacher to return, and once he did he was cited for taking a black bear during an unlawful time of day and possession of a black bear taken unlawfully, and is facing more than $5,000 in fines and fees.
