California hunter airlifted from backcountry after falling from horse
A California hunter was airlifted out the backcountry near Sedan after falling from his horse Saturday.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office got a call at around 7 a.m. Saturday that the 54-year-old man had been thrown from his horse while hunting. The man was requesting to be lifted out of the area by helicopter because he had past back injuries, according to the sheriff’s department.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, in conjunction with AMR and Fish, Wildlife and Parks, found the man who was in stable condition. The man was airlifted from the area for “logistical reasons” even though he did not have any life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s department said.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office reminded people in the press release that hunters and all recreational users in the backcountry should keep their personal limitations and health issues in mind.
“Gallatin County’s mountain areas can be hard to reach by emergency personnel and your rescue may be severely delayed due to poor terrain and/or weather conditions,” according to the department.
