WEST YELLOWSTONE – A hunting trip near West Yellowstone almost turned deadly for one man over the weekend.

Two hunters came across a severely hypothermic 78-year-old hunter near the Beaver Creek Trailhead on Sunday.

Once on scene, the team was able to transport the recovering hunter via horseback to an awaiting ambulance that then transported the hunter to Madison Valley Medical Center where he was treated for mild frostbite and dehydration.

The Beaver Creek drainage area is approximately 21 miles northwest of West Yellowstone.
