HOUSTON – A 15-year-old boy was airlifted from Chickasaw County with a bullet wound to the head following what is believed to be a hunting accident Thursday.

The incident occurred about noon off of Enon Road in Eastern Chickasaw County after the youth were wrapping up a morning deer hunt.

“At this point is appears the two were walking out after hunting in the morning and one of the guns discharged,” said Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy James Myers. “The young man was struck in the head and the other boy ran to a nearby house to get help and call 911.”

Myers said a bolt-action 30.06-cal rifle was recovered at the scene.

Wesley Brassfield, 15, was airlifted to The Med in Memphis in serious but stable condition about 1 p.m. Thursday.
