A Hurley hunter’s day at the family farm took a dramatic turn when he was bitten by a large timber rattlesnake on Saturday.

Dana Sanders Jr. was trimming out shooting lanes for a bow stand for his dad when he felt a strike on his left leg, just above his boot.

“It was very violent,” Sanders said. “It was a very hard bite.”

Sanders said he looked around to see what species of snake had bitten him when he spotted a timber rattlesnake estimated to be over five feet in length.

“No, I did not kill the snake. I wasn’t worried about killing the snake, I was worried about getting somewhere.”
