After a tragic hunting accident left his face disfigured a Canadian man got a fresh start after undergoing a face transplant.
The 64-year-old man, who’s identity has been kept private, was left with difficulty breathing, eating, sleeping and speaking after his accident.
The thirty hour operation at the University of Montreal took over one-hundred medical personnel, specialists, and surgeons.
He had previously undergone five reconstructive surgeries and was living with a tracheotomy in his neck.
The surgery helped restore his face and jaw muscles, teeth, lips, and nose.
Since 2005 there have been about forty facial transplants worldwide.
This man is believed to be the world’s oldest.
