A Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging device was able to detect a disposable lighter that led to finding a hunter reported missing late Friday evening

A hunter reported another hunter had not returned in southwestern Phelps County. At approximately 9:45 p.m. Oct. 24, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department requested the help to search for the 54-year-old man on Mark Twain National Forest property.

The hunter was found with an injured ankle about a half-mile to three-quarters of a mile off of a U.S. Forest Service road near Flat.
