Boone County sheriff’s deputies investigated a squirrel hunting incident early Sunday after a man was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries from a gunshot.

Sheriff’s spokesman Det. Tom O’Sullivan said the incident happened about 7 a.m. at Three Creeks Conservation Area. Two men were hunting when it’s believed a squirrel appeared and a third man shot without seeing the other two.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment, but was not seriously injured, O’Sullivan said. He was struck by small shot the size of BBs, likely from a shotgun shell.

The alleged shooter was not located. The victim told deputies he yelled at the shooter, but the man did not stop and apparently fled the scene. O’Sullivan said the sheriff’s office has no leads on who fired the shot.
