MN: Moorhead hunter charged for illegally shooting elk says he had buck fever

ADA, MINN. (KFGO-AM) – Lucas Balzum, 32, admitted to illegally shooting an elk while hunting deer South of Ada November 7.

He told a DNR conservation officer who investigated the shooting that he had “buck fever.” He said the elk came by him and he thought it was a “big buck”
and he shot it several times.

Balzum is charged with Unlawful Taking of Elk, a gross misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison and a $3,000 fine.
