An 18-year-old Crookston man reportedly suffered minor injuries after shooting himself in a hunting accident. In a media release on Sunday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office stated deputies made contact with the victim at the RiverView Health Emergency Room on Saturday. He was hunting geese at the time his gun accidentally discharged, according to deputies. As a result of the shooting, Polk County deputies wanted to issue a reminder to hunters on the basics of safely handling a firearm: 1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded. 2. Never point muzzle of the firearm at anything you don’t intend to shoot. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. 4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
