A 16-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the foot while loading hunting gear into a vehicle Tuesday, Nov. 6, in rural Pequot Lakes.
Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reported the sheriff’s office was notified by Crow Wing County officials just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, of a teenager being transported by private vehicle to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd for a gunshot wound in her foot. Officers and North Memorial Ambulance intercepted the vehicle and located the 16-year-old. An investigation found the incident happened when a rifle accidentally discharged as hunting gear was being loaded into a vehicle.
The juvenile was later transported to St. Cloud Hospital via North Memorial Air Care for non-life-threatening injuries.
