Mississippi hunting incident leaves 1 dead
HEIDELBERG, Miss. (AP) – Officials are investigating a deadly hunting incident in Jasper County.
Officials say the incident involved a husband and wife who were hunting Saturday and became separated near Heidelberg.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is investigating the incident, along with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.
Wildlife agency spokesman James Walker says a preliminary investigation shows the woman was shot and killed. Walker says it appears the hunter shot at sounds and didn’t identify his target. No charges have been filed at this time.
Walker says officials will have to reconstruct the incident and interview any witnesses involved.
