Injured hunter still unable to walk

WEARE TWP. – Ed VanderZanden, 49, of northern Oceana County, is still not walking and does not have use of his legs after falling out of his tree stand Friday, police said after talking to his family today.

VanderZanden told police he was climbing out of his tree stand when he fell Friday, opening day of the archery deer hunting season.

He fell about 20 to 25 feet and his back hit downed trees on the ground when he landed, said Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Craig Mast.
