Our media partners WVII in Bangor are reporting that a 12-year-old boy was hospitalized, after authorities say his father shot him while hunting over the weekend.

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesman Mark Latti told WVII that the incident happened at 3:15 p.m. in Devereaux Township.

Latti says that the father was shooting at a grouse, and pellets from the shot hit the boy, who was in the woods, 25 feet behind the bird.

The boy was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

So far, names have not been released, and the incident is under investigation.
