Brett Roberts, 52, of Doyline, was sentenced Wednesday afternoon by U.S. District Judge Tom Stagg to 24 months in prison for possession of a nonregistered silencer that he used to commit various hunting violations in Webster and Bossier parishes, U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley said in a news release.
In late 2009, special operations agents for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries initiated an investigation against Roberts for hunting deer at night using a rifle with a silencer and selling deer meat. The investigation revealed more than 120 hunting violations committed through the possession and use of numerous nonregistered firearms.
At sentencing, the court noted that Roberts also possessed and distributed methamphetamine to undercover agents.
The case also was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and state police. Prosecutors were Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert W. Gillespie Jr. and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. France.
