Gator killed with baseball bat
HOUMA — A 38-year-old was cited by Wildlife and Fisheries agents for allegedly killing an alligator with an aluminum baseball bat.
Louis Verrett of Houma was spotted Monday on Falgout Canal Road with a 5-foot alligator, authorities said. A treble hook was snagged into the gator, and the other end was attached to Verrett’s truck, police said.
Verrett allegedly told agents that he repeatedly hit the gator’s head with the bat.
Verrett is charged with hunting without a license outside of hunting season, as well as failure to comply with a sentence. He was convicted for hunting without a license in 1992 but failed to pay $150 fine, agents said. If convicted, Verrett faces up to 90 days in jail and $500 fine.
