RUSTON – A Prairie View Academy baseball player was severely injured in a hunting accident on Thanksgiving day.
Trevor Wallace, a sophomore at PVA was hunting in Kansas when he fell out a tree and injured his spine as well as broke his right arm, thumb and suffered a collapsed lung. He was taken into surgery Friday morning and his T6 and T7 vertebras were removed.
According to a family spokesperson, T6 was fractured and T7 was severely compressed. Wallace’s spinal cord was not severed in the accident, but a titanium cage was placed in his back to stabilize his spine. The doctor removed several bone fragments from Wallace and he is expected to be transported to a hospital closer to Bastrop next week.
Wallace is a starting pitcher for the PVA Spartans. In his freshman year, he was chosen as an honorable mention selection for the MAIS All-District 6-2. He worked 34 1/3 innings, striking out 34.
An account has been set up in Wallace’s name at Ouachita Independent Bank to help defray medical expenses.
