STRAY BULLET HITS NEIGHBOR’S PATIO CHAIR
Reported by Beth Quinn in the Times Herald Record (Middletown, NY) Oct. 1, 2003:
“That’s the chair I always sit on when I’m out on the deck,” said Emily Boardman, who lives on Sugar Loaf Mountain Road, near the sportsmen’s club. “The chair was gouged, and I found the bullet lying on the deck. It’s very alarming.”
I’d hate to see anyone injured, but that club is completely legal” Brian Jarvis, Chester police Chief, said. The only law that applies is that you can’t shoot a firearm within 500 feet facing in the direction of a house or street.
Stray bullets from the club have traveled miles, not feet. In one incident last January, he said a .50-caliber bullet traveled 2.5 miles over Sugar Loaf Mountain, coming down through the roof of a house.
