EU sues for squirrels

The EU is taking member nation Finland to court on behalf of flying squirrels. Pteromys volans are in danger in Finland, the only EU nation with a flying squirrel population.

Finland ran afoul of the EU for lax forestry laws that risk squirrel habitat. The case demonstrates the potential strength of wildlife and habitat management laws that truly address the welfare of animals in a system far more progressive than that in the United States.
