DNR Dictionary: “Cervical Dislocation” means “Broken Neck”

Our member Betty Herner sent a response to her letter to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources regarding the Lake Mohawk’s Homeowners Association’s method of killing Canada geese. The method they used was called “cervical dislocation” but it meant breaking the neck of the goose.

The letter from Samuel Speck, Director of the OH DNR states:

“While the Association may not have acted with the utmost sensitivity, they fully complied with the conditions of their permit. We will continue to require permittees to humane treat problem animals while using lethal control as a last resort.

Thank you for your interest in Ohio’s wildlife.”
