This baby stood at Carolyn’s picture window after the cold weather set in and just shivered. He was always alone. Even when Carolyn had the flu, she would go out and shake the apple tree in front of her house so he had something to eat.

Then a wounded doe came with a little fawn who had been born very late, and they stood in front of her window. An exigency forced Carolyn to Florida for several weeks and C.A.S.H. (Lauren Marcus who is C.A.S.H.’s Hotline operator, information giver, and networker, Peter Muller, and Anne Muller took turns “shaking the apple tree.”) The babies have all survived despite a brutally cold winter (minus 65 with the wind-chill factor) and a ruthless hunting season.
