Bird Feeder or Squirrel Trap?

While it’s a nice style, it’s poorly designed for wildlife. A call came through our hotline number that a squirrel in Rockland County was dangling by his foot in a squirrel feeder. The humane well-meaning man who found the squirrel was able to put a box under him so that he wasn’t dangling until help could arrive.

Marilyn Leybra and Celia Lindblom came to the rescue, but sadly the squirrel lost his foot. Marilyn released him after several days near her house and he’s managing to get around minus a foot, but he has his life and seems to be doing fine! The owner of the feeder has since wrapped black masking tape all around to prevent a recurrence.
